হাসপাতালের বিল মেটাতে পারছিলেন না ওড়িষার এক দম্পতি। হাসপাতালের পরামর্শেই তাদের নবজাতককেই বেচে দিলেন ওই দম্পতি। মর্মান্তিক ঘটনাটি ঘটেছে ওড়িশার কেন্দ্রাপাড়া জেলায়। ৭৫০০ টাকায় এক নিঃসন্তান দম্পতির কাছে বিক্রি করা হল সেই সদ্যোজাতকে।
এরপরই, অদ্ভুতভাবে, সরকার অনুমোদিত আশা কর্মীদের বিরুদ্ধে পুলিশে এফআইআর দায়ের করেন শিশুর বাবা নিরাকার মহারাণা। তাঁর অভিযোগ, ওই কর্মী নিজের উদ্যোগে তাঁদের একটি নার্সিংহোমে নিয়ে যান। সেখানে বিল না মেটাতে পারায়, তাঁদের শিশুসন্তানকে বেচে দেওয়ার পরামর্শ দেয় নার্সিংহোম। যদিও, এই বিষয়ে কোনও মন্তব্য করতে রাজি হয়নি অভিযুক্ত নার্সিংহোম কর্তৃপক্ষ।পুলিশ জানিয়েছে, তাঁদের তৃতীয় সন্তানের জন্মানোর সময় গত ৩০ জুলাই জেলা সদর হাসপাতালে যান রাজনগর মহকুমার রিঘাগাড়া গ্রামের বাসিন্দা মহারাণা ও তাঁর স্ত্রী গীতাঞ্জলি। অভিযোগ, যে আশা কর্মী তাঁদের সঙ্গে গিয়েছিলেন, তিনি গীতাঞ্জলিকে নার্সিংহোমে ভর্তি হওয়ার পরামর্শ দেন।
গত ১ আগস্ট, কন্যাসন্তানের জন্ম দেন পেশায় দিনমজুর মহারাণার স্ত্রী গীতাঞ্জলি। মহারাণার দাবি, তাঁর ধারনা ছিল, সরকারি হাসপাতালের মতো নার্সিং হোমেও নিখরচায় চিকিৎসা পাওয়া যাবে। কিন্তু, তাঁকে সাড়ে সাত হাজার টাকার বিল মেটাতে বলা হয়। মহারাণা বলেন, আমার কাছে সেই সময় এক হাজার টাকাও ছিল না। তাঁর অভিযোগ, নার্সিংহোম কর্তৃপক্ষ জানিয়ে দেয়, টাকা না মেটানো হলে, রোগীকে ছাড়া হবে না।
মহারাণার অভিযোগ, এরপর নার্সিংহোম কর্তৃপক্ষ তাঁকে শিশুকে বেচে দেওয়ার পরামর্শ দেয়। তারা জানায়, কোনও নিঃসন্তান দম্পতিকে শিশু বেচে টাকা তুলে নিতে। মহারাণা জানান, আর কোনও উপায় না পেয়ে তিনি চাপের কাছে নতিস্বীকার করেন। বেচে দেন নিজের সদ্যোজাতকে।
এফআইআরে মহারাণা অভিযোগ করেন, নার্সিংহোম আশ্রিত মিডলম্যানদের মাধ্যমে তাঁর সন্তানকে এক দম্পতির হাতে তুলে দেওয়া হয়। সদ্যোজাত কন্যা হারানো মহারাণার দাবি, ওই আশা কর্মী তাঁদের বিপথে চালিত করেছেন। তিনি জানান, শিশু-বিক্রি চক্রে জড়িতরা যাতে ছাড়া না পায়, তার জন্যই তিনি পুলিশের দ্বারস্থ হয়েছেন। অভিযোগ পেয়েই তদন্ত শুরু করে পুলিশ। কেন্দ্রাপাড়া থানার ইনস্পেক্টর বিজয় কুমার বিশি জানান, জুভেনাইল জাস্টিস আইন এবং ভারতীয় দণ্ডবিধির ৩৭২ ধারায় মামলা দায়ের করা হয়েছে।
